Healthy Snacks for the Summer

Good Nutrition Can Still Be Fun!

During the summer it’s easy to forget about healthy eating habits and dive head-first into ice cream, chips, and soda. But with some creativity and a little effort, you can come up with healthy treats that will satisfy your cravings. Here are a few fun ideas to get you started!

Go for the fruits and veg!

From juicy watermelon or pineapple slices to colorful fruit kabobs, there’s no shortage of ways to get your daily dose of vitamins with some sweet summer flavors.
Make a smoothie or fruit salad with a variety of your favorites, like strawberries and blueberries. Or get creative and make frozen banana pops or blend up homemade yogurt popsicles – the possibilities are endless!

Fruit not your favorite? Try some crunchy veggie options. If you’re craving something savory, roast chickpeas with your favorite spices or make hummus or guac as a dip for fresh veggies like bell peppers, cucumber, carrots, and celery.

Stay hydrated!

Staying hydrated throughout the day is crucial for maintaining good health, especially during the summer — and especially if you’re sweating through a workout at our Oklahoma and Arkansas gyms.

If you find plain water a little dull, make it a flavorful experience with lemon or cucumber slices. Or perk up your water with raspberries or strawberries. With a subtle hint of flavor, drinking water doesn’t seem like such a chore — and you’re adding a natural source of vitamins and minerals.

Snacks on the go

Toss together your favorite nuts, sunflower seeds, pepitas, and dark chocolate pieces for a trail mix you can take anywhere. Or try one of these easily-packed and transportable ideas:

  • Snack on whole grain crackers instead of chips when you’re craving salty.
  • Enjoy Greek yogurt with granola to satisfy your sweet tooth. Before you start an exercise program or make changes to your nutrition, it’s important to consult with your doctor. This article is intended for information and ideas and is not a substitute for professional care. When it comes to training, your doctor is the best person to help you determine the safest and healthiest approach, especially if you have chronic or recurring health concerns.
