Summer Body Prep

Tips from 10GYM: Get Fit for The Summer Season

With summer just about here, it’s time to prepare for those sunny days and warm evenings. Whether you’re headed to the beach, relaxing by the pool, or attending outdoor festivals, feeling fit and confident can make your summer even more enjoyable.

Here are a few tips from our Oklahoma and Arkansas gyms to help you get your body ready for summertime fun.

  1. Set SMART Goals
Start with setting SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Instead of vague resolutions like “get in shape,” aim for something concrete like “lose 5 pounds in a month” or “run three times a week.” This approach keeps you motivated and on track. Another achievable goal might be to increase your daily step count by 2,000 steps over the next four weeks. You can measure progress using a fitness tracker or smartphone app that logs your daily steps.
  2. Mix Up Your Workouts
Variety is the spice of life, and it’s also key to a successful fitness routine. Combine cardio, strength, and functional training exercises to keep things interesting. Try Les Mills workouts for a quick calorie burn, yoga for flexibility, and weight lifting to build lean muscle. Mixing it up prevents boredom and keeps your body guessing. 3. Stay Hydrated
Hydration is essential, especially as temperatures rise. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body functioning at its best. Infuse your water with fresh fruits like lemon, cucumber, or berries for a refreshing twist that makes hydration more enjoyable.

While soft drinks and coffee taste good and quench your thirst, they aren’t the best options for hydrating your body. It’s water.

  4. Eat Clean, Not Less
Focus on nutrition rather than deprivation. Fill your plate with whole foods like lean proteins (such as skinless chicken breast, turkey, and fish), healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, low-fat Greek yogurt, and plant-based options like tofu and lentils.

Avoid processed foods and sugary drinks, which can derail your progress. Eating clean fuels your body with the nutrients it needs to perform and recover, especially during hot summer months.

  5. Prioritize Sleep
Quality sleep is crucial for recovery and overall well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to give your body the rest it needs. Good sleep helps you feel energized, improves mood, and enhances workout performance.
  6. Mindset Matters
A positive mindset can make all the difference. Practice self-love and remind yourself that health and fitness are journeys. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and stay committed to your goals without being overly critical of yourself.
  7. Consistency is Key
Consistency beats perfection every time. It’s better to work out regularly and eat well over time than to set yourself up for disappointment with a goal that’s out of reach. Be patient with yourself, stick to your routine, and you’ll see results over time.

This summer, focus on feeling strong, confident, and happy in your own skin. By setting realistic goals, staying hydrated, eating clean, getting enough sleep, and maintaining a positive mindset, you’ll be well on your way to a fit and fabulous summer. Enjoy the journey and embrace the sunshine!
